Here's to a Yappy New Year!
Raising a family is hard work! We hope 2011 was kind to you and your family and all those puppies we helped raise are doing well. Dog training is forever! Don't forget we are here to help if your Grrr8 Mate is in need of a little "behavioural adjustment"! My beautiful Nelda, the face on the magazine, is a wonderful example of a dog in constant need of "Practical Parenting".
Is Dog Training Valuable?
A recent caller told us he wanted "value for his money"! His 9 week Doberman puppy "knew everything", so what could we offer that was of value to him?! All the usual stuff came to mind - experienced and qualified trainer, small classes, notes, email support etc etc. But, I think what is most valuable is ......
- If 8 weeks of training and owner education, prevents your puppy from eating a $1,00 I Phone, a new leather sofa or the spa wiring, the cost of the class is worth every cent!
- If 8 weeks of training gives you a puppy that develops confidence and safe behaviour for family and friends, that is a long lasting gift to you!
- If 8 weeks of training means your puppy has a happy, enjoyable, fun filled life that is safe from harm, that is a wonderful gift to your dog!
- If 8 weeks of training helps you and your dog learn the skills to work as therapy teams in hospitals or schools, that is a great gift to our community!
Remember! Dog training requires owner commitment. All the education in the world is useless if not put into practice!

There's Something About Larry!
 
Larry is the loveable hound who sometimes "helps out" in class. He is also a favourite at Bonbeach Primary School where he works as a Delta Classroom Canine, helping children with their reading. Everyone wants to know what Larry is! Is he a real breed? What sort of mixture is he? People love telling me what sort of "cross" he is.
Larry is a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. Actually his official title is Australian Champion Rokeena Lafayette!
The PBGV, which originates from the Vendeen region in France is described as an active and vigorous hound developed in the 16th century for hunting. A passionate and courageous hunter, he is docile, but wilful! Although he looks like a relaxed, layabout boy, Larry can really move! The thing we love most about him is his beautiful peaceful temperament and love of life!
Apparently, I have read that this is a breed that should NEVER be allowed off lead as the hunting instinct is too strong! Mmmmm, we love a challenge!
